The 9 Best Pizza Places in Calgary for Every Type of Occasion
Is there any other food that’s as versatile as pizza? Whether you’re in the mood to celebrate or you just don’t feel like cooking for the night, there’s never a wrong time for it.
Sadly, not all pizzas are created equal. We all know that when it’s done right, it might as well be the best thing in the world. But when it falls short, it could easily ruin your day.
Well, this guide can help you navigate the city’s rich pizza landscape. Listed below are all the best pizza places in Calgary.
1. Una Pizza + Wine
– Media credit: unapizzaandwine
Address: 618 17 Ave SW
Contact details: +1 403 453 1183
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Must-order: 4-Maggi Pizza
Who needs a “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” when you’ve got a friendly neighborhood pizza place? Una Pizza + Wine seems to be the entire local community’s favorite hangout spot ever since they opened in 2010.
Of course, a big reason why people go here in the first place is because of their stellar pizzas. They specifically use stone deck ovens so that their thin crust pizzas come out chewy in the middle and crispy on the sides.
Personally, our favorite has to be their 4-Maggi Pizza. The rich, melted blend of its cheeses is perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the restaurant’s special truffle honey.
And since Una is also a wine bar, it’s an unwritten rule that you have to have their pizzas with wine. Just ask their staff for recommendations based on your order, and they’ll bring you one of their handpicked wines.
Pro tip: The best place to enjoy a meal from Una Pizza + Wine is on their patio. It’s a great dog-friendly spot where you can enjoy the weather and people-watch. |
2. Pulcinella
– Media credit: lovepulcinella
Address: 1147 Kensington Crescent NW
Contact details: +1 403 283 1166
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Must-order: Marinara (Napoletana) Pizza
Pulcinella’s secret weapon is its head chef and owner, Chef Dom. Out of all the cooks in Calgary, he’s the only member of the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani (essentially the ultimate Neopolitan pizza-making authority in the world).
He utilizes a special cooking method to make his Naples-style pizza, using traditional wood-fired baking to give the pizza this distinct, slightly charred flavor that somehow complements the other ingredients.
The Marinara (Napoletana) Pizza is the perfect example of this. The char taste brings out the slight sweetness of their fresh tomato sauce and the subtle milky flavor of the mozzarella.
Before you get the pizza, though, make sure to order the arancini as your antipasti. It’s seriously the best of its kind in the city.
Pro tip: Those who love Pulcinella’s distinct cooking style can learn how to do it at home. They offer virtual cooking classes with their head chef, where they’ll even provide all of the pre-portioned ingredients. All you have to do is follow instructions! |
3. Noble Pie

Address: Back Alley Entrance, 720 11 Ave SW
Contact details: 403 536 4075
Operating Hours:
- Wednesday to Thursday, Sunday – 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Monday to Tuesday – Closed
Must-order: Half + Half: Sweet Cheesus / Roni
Noble Pie is a pizza joint owned by a pizza-passionate couple. They’ve traveled far and wide to study a variety of savory pie-making techniques.
Looking at their menu, you can see just how much they’ve experimented throughout the years. We thank them for it, though, especially since they’ve discovered quite a few out-of-this-world combinations.
The best advice we can give is to get a Half+Half Pizza. This way, you can try two flavors of their beloved New York-style pizzas for the price of one.
Most people get half a Roni, which comes loaded with pepperoni, and half Sweet Cheesus. The latter comes with four cheeses topped with spicy honey.
Remember to get their famous garlic dip as well. This can add a slightly sweet, garlicky flavor to your pizza.
Pro tip: Noble Pie is a very busy restaurant, especially on the weekends. Make sure to join their waitlist hours before you plan on going so that you can easily get a table when you arrive. |
4. Spiros Pizza

Address: 1902 33 St SW
Contact details: +1 403 685 4444
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: Cowboys & Heroes Pizza
Pizza and Greek food are probably a combination that’s never crossed your mind. But after Spiros Pizza, we guarantee that it’s all that you’ll be thinking about.
They’ve been in Calgary since 1969, and the quality of their food has always been consistent. They’re especially known for their seafood, which is so fresh it makes you feel like you’re dining somewhere beachside in Santorini.
Even their pizza is made with the freshest of toppings. You can see it in how satisfying the cheese pull is when you take a bite (only fresh cheese can achieve this).
Out of all the pizzas they serve, we keep coming back to their Cowboys & Heroes Pizza. The best way to describe it is a meat lover’s dream come true.
Its toppings include pepperoni, bacon, ham, and spicy Italian sausage. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!
Pro tip: Those who have special events can rely on Spiros Pizza for catering. They can accommodate groups of up to 100 people, and they’ll even create a special menu just for you. |
5. Posto Pizzeria & Bar
– Media credit: postocalgary
Address: +1 403 263 4876
Contact details:
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
- Friday – 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Saturday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Sunday – 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: #8 Pizza
When you step into Posto Pizzeria & Bar, be ready to get to know the servers by name. They’re so friendly that you’ll probably find your next bestie among them by the end of the night.
Still, the staff is just the second-best thing about this place. The first is definitely the pizzas.
You might be a little confused at first because they don’t name their pizzas at all. Instead, they refer to them by number and just list down the ingredients in each.
Right now, our favorite is the #8, which contains pineapple, pancetta, gorgonzola, and Fresno chillies. We love the combination of the pineapples’ sweetness and the spiciness of the chillies.
However, we understand that not everyone believes that pineapples belong on pizza. In this case, you can go for the #9. It has mortadella meat, caramelized onions, basil, and balsamic, giving it a more tangy and savory taste.
Pro tip: Be sure to arrive at Posto Pizzeria + Bar between 2 PM to 5 PM or 9 PM onwards for their Happy Hour. This is when they offer great discounts on all of their pizzas and some of their drinks. |
6. Pizzeria GAGA
– Media credit: loaf2go
Address: 1236 12 Ave SW
Contact details: +1 403 264 2421
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday to Friday – 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday – 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Sunday to Monday – Closed
Must-order: Signora Gaga Pizza
When the owners named the restaurant Pizzeria Gaga, it was as if they knew how crazy we’d be over their pizza.
We don’t know how, but they’ve managed to perfect pizza-making. That’s why we can’t complain that they don’t allow additional toppings or substitutes.
They’ve completely mastered how to make the crispiest thin crust. Even if you take your leftover pizza home, the crust miraculously stays crispy up until the next day.
The specialty here is the Signora Gaga. It’s topped with mozzarella, smoky prosciutto, spinach, bocconcini, and sweet figs. They lay all these fresh ingredients out so beautifully that your eyes end up satisfied as well.
Pro tip: Pizzeria Gaga is the ideal date restaurant for those who appreciate the finer things in life. They have splendid art pieces displayed on the walls, and from time to time, one of the owners plays the piano for their customers. |
7. Bow Tie Pizza
– Media credit: bowtiepizza
Address: 112 Mahogany St S E
Contact details: +1 403 299 0000
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: Beard of Zeus Pizza
Bow Tie Pizza is a pretty straightforward establishment. They don’t have any gimmicks or fancy decor. All they have is good pizza, and that’s more than enough.
We’re not exaggerating when we say that people have written poems just about the crust of their pizza alone. It’s light, and it’s been perfectly cooked, so it also has a good crisp when you bite into it.
The dough is so good that you can just throw any toppings on it and it’ll still end up delicious. And we’re saying this based on experience since they allow customers to customize their own pizza. You get to choose size, sauce, and toppings.
But if that’s not your style, they also have signature pizza combinations. The Beard of Zeus Pizza — loaded with chicken, ham, garlic butter, feta, and olives — has turned plenty of customers into regulars.
Just remember to save some room for dessert. Their creamy cheesecake is a must-try.
Pro tip: You can get a free dessert from Bow Tie Pizza just by joining their loyalty program. You’ll start earning reward points and gain access to exclusive discounts after you sign up. |
8. Actually Pretty Good Pizza
– Media credit: actuallyprettygood
Address: 2509 14 St SW
Contact details: +1 403 475 9384
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: Grease Wheel Pizza
Entering Actually Pretty Good Pizza feels like stepping into a carefully curated Instagram feed. You can just tell that the people running the place are cool.
They’re not just all about the looks, though. The taste of their food is just as spectacular.
We highly recommend getting the Greasewheel Pizza to see what we’re talking about. Its title might not sound the most appealing, but just like the restaurant’s name, it’s actually pretty good.
The Greasewheel is their unique take on pepperoni pizza. The saltiness of the meat goes well with the creaminess of the Fior Di Latte cheese that they use.
Don’t overlook the veggie section of their menu as well. We’ve never had Brussels sprouts as tasty as the ones they serve.
Pro tip: Start the business week right by dining at Actually Pretty Good Pizza. Every Monday, all of their pies are available at 20% off, and they offer discounts on their wines too. |
9. Pizzaface
– Media credit: datenightyyc
Address: 1103 17 Ave SW Unit #3
Contact details: +1 403 300 2022
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: Mikes Pickle Pizza
Pizzaface began as a small pop-up stall that was part of a few events around Calgary. However, the locals loved them so much that they were pretty much forced to find a home at 17th Ave.
We’re so glad that they did because this move allowed them to expand their offerings. Now they have a rotating menu of pizzas that make use of seasonal ingredients.
Their bestseller is the Mikes Pickle Pizza. It may sound like something from a prank at first, but the flavor is seriously mindblowing.
Even though it comes with so many pickles, it’s not overwhelmingly sour at all. You’ll still be able to taste the richness of the mozzarella and the garlic cream sauce.
Pro tip: Indecisive folks would be happy to know that you don’t have to order a full pizza at Pizzaface. They offer $5 on-the-go slices, which are great if you just want to try out some of their flavors. |
