The 9 Best Cheesecake Shops in Calgary That’ll Make You Want a Slice at the End of Every Meal
My biggest flaw is that I always have to have dessert. It’s so bad that even if I get to eat the most sumptuous meal on earth, I still won’t be satisfied unless I get something sweet after.
Usually, I settle for whatever’s on the menu. But if it were up to me, I’d always go for cheesecake. I don’t care what kind it is, I just know that I’m the happiest when I get my hands on a slice.
Below, I’ve compiled all the best cheesecake shops in Calgary that I’d head to in a heartbeat the next time I start craving dessert.
1. The Cheesecake Cafe

Address: 7600 Macleod Trl SE
Contact details: +1 403 255 7443
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Tuesday – 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Wednesday to Saturday – 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Must-order: Turtle Cheesecake
The Cheesecake Cafe began serving its signature cheesecakes in 1988. Ever since, they’ve been making each cake fresh every day, with premium ingredients that have been imported from all over the world.
Their cheesecake menu changes every few months to take advantage of seasonal ingredients. However, we think it’s also their way of catering to all types of cravings.
Our usual order is their Turtle Cheesecake. It’s essentially a chocolate lover’s dream come true.
It’s a chocolate, pecan, and caramel cheesecake, topped with chocolate ganache and chocolate icing. Just from its description, you can probably already tell how decadent this cake is.
Just be warned that the place gets busy on the weekends, so you’ll have to be a little bit patient with their service. But once you get that first taste of cheesecake, it’ll all be worth it.
Pro tip: Make your birthday extra special by heading to The Cheesecake Cafe. They usually give discounts and freebies to birthday celebrants. |
2. NOtaBLE – The Restaurant
– Media credit: notablecalgary
Address: 4611 Bowness Rd NW #133
Contact details: +1 403 288 4372
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday to Thursday, Sunday – 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM
- Friday – 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM
- Saturday – 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM
- Monday – Closed
Must-order: Bruleed Stilton Cheesecake
NOtaBLE is the kind of restaurant you can go to for any kind of occasion. The atmosphere is very classy, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious at all.
When coming here, everyone agrees that the Bruleed Stilton Cheesecake is the way to go. This won GQ magazine’s prestigious Golden Dish award back in 1997, and it’s still just as good as it was back then.
The flavor profile is quite different from other cheesecakes. They use blue cheese in the cake and rhubarb compote for sweetness. But so far, we haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like the crunchy brulee on top.
Pro tip: You can book NOtaBLE’s private dining room for any kind of event. Their staff will help you prepare a menu, and you can decorate the space however you want. |
3. Éclair de Lune
– Media credit: eclairdelune_yyc
Address: 4127 6 St NE
Contact details: +1 403 398 8803
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Saturday – 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Tuesday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Sunday – 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Must-order: Mango Cheesecake
Eclair de Lune is Calgary’s number one source for authentic and exquisite French pastries. Instead of adjusting to local tastes, they keep their flavors distinctly Parisian.
Their dainty cake designs also attract plenty of customers. This careful craftsmanship has made them the go-to cake makers for special events, like birthdays, engagement parties, and weddings.
However, their cakes are too good for us to wait for any occasion. We especially don’t need a reason to order any of their superb fruit-flavored cheesecakes.
Their Mango Cheesecake, specifically, is divine. It’s light and leaves that sweet, tropical taste of mango in your mouth after every bite.
Pro tip: Eclair de Lune is a very small cafe with no seating area inside. However, they do offer free parking where you can grab a few bites of your cheesecake before you head home. |
4. Pablo Cheese Tart

Address: 602B 16 Ave NW
Contact details: +1 587 834 1538
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Must-order: Oreo Basque Cheesecake
Pablo Cheese Tart is a very well-known cafe chain in Japan. When they noticed that flocks of tourists were bringing their pastries home, they decided to expand and include Calgary as one of their new locations.
They initially gained popularity with their classic cheese tarts. These have a very unique and smooth texture in the middle, with a nice, flaky crust to hold it all together.
Personally, though, their Oreo Basque Cheesecake is superior. It’s gooey and light on the inside, almost similar to eating half-melted ice cream, up until you get to the delicious and crunchy Oreo crust.
Sadly, this variation isn’t always available in-store. If this happens, you can just go for the original version of their Basque Cheesecake, which is just as good but without the cookie exterior.
Pro tip: If you don’t feel like picking up something heavy to eat, you can try one of Pablo Cheese Tart’s smoothies. They’re just as creamy as their cakes, and they even have a smoothie version of their classic cheese tart. |
5. Yamato Bakery
– Media credit: takarri.eats
Address: 1322 Centre St N
Contact details: +1 403 230 5313
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Wednesday to Sunday – 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Tuesday – Closed
Must-order: Japanese Cheesecake
Yamato Bakery brings the precision of Japanese baking to Calgary. This bakery only uses high-quality ingredients that have been carefully selected and shipped from different corners of the planet.
The best thing about them is that they don’t use that much sugar. However, it never tastes like something’s lacking in their cakes. There’s still the right amount of sweetness in every bite.
We always end up ordering their Japanese Cheesecake. It’s light, fluffy, and beautifully decorated with fruit slices on top. We also like that it has this subtle, natural milky taste that’s almost similar to the flavor of custard.
Pro tip: Yamato Bakery can make birthday cakes extra special. Apart from adding candles, they can incorporate a special note from the sender into the cake design. |
6. Rocky Dessert Market
– Media credit: rockydessert
Address: 400 5 Ave SW Unit 125
Contact details: +1 403 312 7311
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Must-order: Basque Cheesecake
Rocky Dessert Market is guaranteed to be the most charming cafe you’ll ever see. Going inside is like stepping foot into your favorite grandma’s quaint little living room.
It’s obvious that they’re very dedicated to their theme. The place is decorated with stuffed bears, ribbons, ceramics, cozy armchairs, vintage furniture, and more. Even their latte art is just as cute, with their baristas usually drawing bears in the coffee.
Based on everything we’ve tried, the Basque Cheesecake is the best one to pair with their drinks. It’s smooth and rich, with just a hint of tanginess from the cream cheese. It’s not that sweet either, so it doesn’t get overwhelming after a few bites.
Pro tip: If you fall in love with Rocky Dessert Market’s decor, you can bring some of their pieces home. Some of the tea cups, tea sets, and vases they have on display are for sale. |
7. Kan You Cake
– Media credit: kan.u.cake
Address: 220 14 Ave SE
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Wednesday – 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Thursday – Closed
- Friday to Sunday – 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Must-order: Lychee Cheesecake
At first glance, you’d probably wonder if the cakes at Kan You Cake are edible. They’re so beautifully made that they look like they’re just there for display.
From what we’ve seen, the chefs here aren’t just good cooks, but artists as well. They take advantage of the vibrant colors of their ingredients and use them masterfully in their cake designs.
But of course, they’re not just creative with visuals. They’re very innovative when it comes to flavors as well.
Their Lychee Cheesecake is a great example of a uniquely flavored cake. It’s very creamy while still having that distinct, slightly floral lychee taste.
As for texture, it’s also much closer to a mousse than a cheesecake. Altogether, it sounds like a weird blend of sensations, and yet we can’t get enough of it.
Pro tip: Those who fall in love with the plating at Kan U Cake can now replicate it in their own kitchen. This cafe has a sister company called Kan U Home that sells bowls, cups, plates, and other cute kitchen utensils. |
8. Castella Cheesecake
– Media credit: castellacheesecake
Address: CF Chinook Centre, 6455 Macleod Trl SW #163a
Contact details: +1 368 999 8824
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Saturday – 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Sunday – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Must-order: Signature Castella Cheesecake
Castella Cheesecake was only launched in 2018, but they already have several locations all over Canada. Lucky for us, their Calgary franchise is conveniently situated in Chinook Centre.
This makes their cheesecakes the ideal snack for when you decide to take a break from shopping. As soon as you walk in, you’ll immediately be welcomed by the scent of freshly baked cakes in the air.
They mostly serve Japanese-inspired cheesecakes, which have a light and airy texture.
Their Signature Castella Cheesecake is the one we keep coming back to. Each spoonful is creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.
Pro tip: Castella Cheesecake’s to-go boxes are beautifully designed. You won’t need gift wrapping anymore if you decide to give one of their delicious cheesecakes as a gift. |
9. Wolfbay Cafe

- Tuesday to Friday – 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Sunday – 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Monday – Closed
Must-order: Stampede Mini Donut Cheesecake
With over 30 cheesecake variations to choose from, you can practically eat a different cheesecake a day for a month at Wolfbay Cafe.
Although this is paradise for people like us who can’t get enough of cheesecake, we can imagine how challenging it’ll be for indecisive customers.
To help you out, we recommend getting their Stampede Mini Donut Cheesecake. This is a fun vanilla and cinnamon cheesecake with mini donuts stuffed inside.
Sadly, this creative cake is only available from April to October. So, during any other month of the year, you can go for their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake instead.
This cake is topped with actual chocolate pieces and a thick layer of peanut butter. Underneath, it sits on a delicious Oreo crust. It’s basically the kind of cake you’d dream about as a kid.
Pro tip: Wolfbay Cafe is amazing at creating complicated, custom-designed cakes. They can transform your favorite Disney characters, superheroes, or even horror movie villains into cake form for your birthday. |
