The 7 Best Cupcake Shops in Calgary Where You’ll Find Your Next Favorite Treat
Growing up, birthdays were the only time I got to enjoy cupcakes. Because, unlike me, the rest of my family isn’t really that fond of sweet treats and pastries.
Now that I’m an adult with my own money, I get to treat myself to cupcakes every once in a while. I call them casual cupcakes now, meaning I don’t need to wait for an occasion to get them.
I’ve been to so many shops across the city, and I can tell you which places are worth buying from. Below, you’ll find all the cupcake shops in Calgary that really hit the spot.
1. Crave Cupcakes

Operating Hours:
- Tuesday to Friday – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

- Sunday to Monday – Closed
Must-order: Red Velvet Cupcake
Crave Cupcakes has been a local go-to for over 20 years. Their products have been used for a variety of events, including weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and more.
A huge reason people love them so much is the quality of their cupcakes. These are baked fresh daily, so they’re still light and moist when you sink your teeth into them.
Their best flavor is Red Velvet, which is perfectly sweet and a little bit tangy. You should know that this store isn’t shy when it comes to icing. So the cupcakes might not be for everyone, but they’re definitely for those who want to indulge.
You can get these individually or in a pack of 6 or a dozen. They also offer gluten-free and vegan options for those who have dietary preferences.
Pro tip: All of Crave Cupcakes’ flavors are available in half the original size. The shop sells mini versions of their cupcakes that’ll satisfy your sweet tooth with less guilt. |
2. Glamorgan Bakery

- Saturday – 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Must-order: Cupcake Cakes
Locals have loved Glamorgan Bakery since 1977. Ask any Calgarian and they’ll tell you what their favorite Glamorgan baked good is. They’ll usually say their bread, donuts, muffins, and pies.
However, you can also rely on this bakery for custom orders. In fact, one of their bestsellers is their Cupcake Cakes—a sweet treat that’s designed to look like a whole cake, but is actually made up of several pieces of white or chocolate cupcakes arranged together.
You can have these Cupcake Cakes designed to look like anything you want, but most people choose to decorate them with icing flowers or cartoon characters.
Whatever design you go with, just make sure you get their buttercream icing on top. It’s silky, buttery, and absolutely divine. You won’t regret getting it at all.
Pro tip: If you drop by Glamorgan Bakery to place a cake order, make sure to get one of their cheese buns as well. We haven’t met anyone in the city who doesn’t like them! |
3. Bliss & Co

- Thursday to Saturday – 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Must-order: 1 Dozen Regular Cupcakes
Bliss & Co is heaven-sent for those with food allergies. They’re one of the few completely nut-free bakeries in the city.
Most of the customers who go here drop by for dessert. The shop has a great selection of croissants, lemon slices, shortbread, tarts, and more.
They’ve got a ton of flavor choices as well, especially when it comes to cupcakes. Each option is rich and moist, so we recommend getting a dozen to try as much as you can.
Their classic flavors, like Vanilla and Chocolate Bliss, are decadent with their buttercream icing. But more unique flavors, such as 14 Karrot Gold (made with carrot cake) and Island Dream (coconut cake with coconut shreds) shouldn’t be missed.
Pro tip: There isn’t a lot of seating inside Bliss & Co. It’s best to order for pick-up if you don’t feel like standing up to wait for a while. |

Must-order: Mix & Match – 6 Pack
Hey Sugar is a boutique bakery that’s best known for its visually striking artisanal cupcakes. They look so good that you might want to snap a pic or two for the ‘gram before you eat.
But whenever we go here, we always have a hard time choosing which cupcake to get. Luckily, they have a Mix & Match box where you can pair several cupcakes with any of their donuts and cookies.
So far, we can’t get enough of their Chocolate Salted Caramel, Birthday Crumble, and Biscoff Cupcakes. They’re very creamy, moist, and totally addictive.
Pro tip: Customers can rely on Hey Sugar to cater events like weddings, parties, or corporate functions. You can even ask them to do custom designs on their baked goods as long as you upload reference pictures. |

Must-order: Seasonal Cupcakes
Calgarians have adored Cakeworks since 1993. Despite being a small business, they’re so popular that they have to create and design more than 150 cakes per week.
This might seem like a lot, but you’ll understand when you see their unique custom cakes and cupcakes. They’re so pretty and well-made that you’ll probably hesitate before you bite into them.
At any given time, the shop offers delicious Vanilla, Chocolate, and Red Velvet Cupcakes. But whenever possible, we prefer their limited edition cupcakes more.
For example, their seasonal eggnog cupcake is something we still think about. It was sweet, rich, and had a hint of spice from the nutmeg. We’re honestly still hoping that they bring it back one of these days.
Pro tip: Cakeworks requires a 3-day notice for most of their orders. However, wedding and shape cake orders should be placed at least 3 weeks in advance. |

Ola Luna Cake & Bakeshop is a cozy patisserie with the most exquisite baked goods. The sweet aroma of pastries will welcome you from the moment you step into the shop.
Everything they sell has clearly been prepared meticulously. There’s not a single detail out of place.
They’ve got decadent cupcake flavors to choose from, such as Dulce de Leche Chocolate, Hazelnut Chocolate Vanilla, and Cookie Butter Vanilla.
However, we tend to go for their fruitier flavors, like their Strawberry Vanilla and Mango Passion Coconut Vanilla. These always taste fresh, and they strike the perfect balance between sweet and tangy.
Pro tip: We highly recommend trying the homemade breads at Ola Luna Cake & Bakeshop. They sell Brioche every Tuesday, and Sourdough from Wednesday to Sunday. |
7. Purple Patch

Address: 364 Auburn Bay Blvd SE
Contact details: +1 403 633 0769

Must-order: Chocolate Cupcakes
Purple Patch is the shop for customers who want something unique and personalized. Their custom cakes and cupcakes are especially popular among kids (and kids-at-heart).
All you have to do is give them a couple of keywords and reference pictures, and they’ll take it from there. They’ll create a whole batch of cupcakes that’ll look amazing when displayed at your event.
Among all their flavors, the Chocolate Cupcakes are the biggest hit. They’re very moist, sweet, and super fluffy. It’s almost as if you were biting into a tasty chocolate cloud.
Pro tip: As of now, Purple Patch is still a home-based bakery. This means that all orders must be placed by phone. |
