5 Best Cataract Surgery Clinics in Calgary for a Clearer View

  • Surgeon experience: I looked for cataract specialists with substantial surgical experience. Your eyesight deserves more than a good sales pitch.

  • Technology: I checked how clinics measure your eyes and plan the procedure. Fancy equipment only matters if it helps your surgeon make informed choices.

  • Lens options: I favoured clinics that explain standard and premium lenses clearly, including what each might cost.

  • Wait times: I looked at how soon patients can get a consultation and surgery. Blurry vision doesn’t make calendars easier to manage.

  • Patient comfort: I checked how clinics explain anaesthesia and what to expect during surgery. A calm, clear explanation goes a long way.

A recent visit to my trusted ophthalmologist had me looking into cataract specialists. Apparently, squinting at the menu isn’t a long-term vision plan.

Searching for the best cataract surgery in Calgary can make your head spin when you’re already struggling to see clearly. I wanted to know which clinics explain my options without making me feel rushed.

So I looked into local specialists, lens choices, and what to ask about wait times. Here’s what I found to help you start your own search.

How much does cataract surgery cost in Calgary?

Standard cataract surgery costs $0 for eligible Albertans when it’s medically necessary and covered by provincial health care.

Premium toric or multifocal lenses are estimated at $1,000–$3,500 per eye. A laser-assisted add-on is estimated at $800–$1,500 per eye. Fully private surgery is estimated at $4,000–$6,300 per eye.

These paid ranges are planning estimates, not verified Calgary clinic prices. Ask your clinic for an itemized quote before booking.

1. Clearview Eye Centre

clearview-eye-centre

Website
Address: #200, 1035 64 Ave SE
Contact: (403) 253 – 1118 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 AM – 5 PM

Clearview Eye Centre caught my eye because Dr. Feisal Adatia works in both cataract surgery and retinal care.

If you’re juggling more than one eye concern, that breadth of expertise gives you a useful place to start asking questions.

Dr. Jason Wesolosky provides cataract care, while the clinic offers dry eye treatment. I like having those services in one practice, though your surgeon would still need to assess what’s right for your eyes.

The clinic surgeons take time to discuss patients’ goals and carry out detailed assessments. That’s the conversation I’d want before choosing a replacement lens, especially when the options start sounding like an eyeglass prescription with a plot twist.

The catch is that new patients need a referral from an optometrist or family doctor. It’s one more appointment to arrange before you can discuss cataract surgery with the clinic.

Pros

  • Cataract surgeons with experience in other eye conditions
  • Retinal care and dry eye treatment available at the same clinic
  • Detailed assessments and discussions about vision goals, according to the clinic

Cons

  • New patients need a referral from an optometrist or family doctor before booking an appointment

Great Service and Efficient Friendly Staff

I am very happy with the service received at Clearview. I go every 6 months and I dont wait long between tests and staff are nice and efficient.

Dr Ryan Yau performed my cataract surgery 2 years ago and I see him for my regular visits. I highly recommend him. He makes you feel valued and heard.

Excellent Care and Reassuring Cataract Surgery

I received excellent care at Clearview. The staff are all polite and very friendly. I had complete faith in Dr Yau  He made me feel at ease when doing my cataract surgery which I was a little nervous about! I highly recommend them all!

2. Mitchell Eye Centre

Website
Address: Poplar Centre 5504 Macleod Trail SW, Suites 210, 220
Contact: (403) 258-1773 | Fax: (403) 258-2704
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 AM – 5 PM

Mitchell Eye Centre caught my attention for its cataract surgery and range of replacement lenses.

I’d want that choice explained carefully before committing my eyesight to anything more complicated than reading glasses.

The surgeons use an ultrasonic probe to remove the cloudy lens during an outpatient procedure. It sounds technical, but the clinic explains the steps clearly enough that I wouldn’t need a medical dictionary beside me.

If clouding develops in the lens capsule later, Mitchell offers YAG laser treatment without another incision. That’s reassuring to know, though I’d still ask the surgeon what follow-up care my eyes might need.

My practical gripe is parking at the Poplar Centre. Free street spots are limited, so I’d budget for paid parking when planning appointments, especially if someone needs to drive me home.

Pros

  • Offers cataract surgery with a range of replacement lenses
  • Explains the outpatient procedure clearly
  • Offers YAG laser treatment if the lens capsule becomes cloudy later

Cons

  • Free street parking near the Poplar Centre is limited, so you may need to pay for parking

Exceptional Experience and Perfect Vision Outcome

I recently had cataract surgery in both eyes with Dr Robert Mitchell, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, the process was easy and comfortable, and I felt well cared for by the entire team.

The results have been incredible — I now have perfect 20/20 vision, and my sight was clear almost immediately after surgery. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and made the entire experience worry-free.

I am thoroughly impressed with the outcome and the level of care provided. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone considering cataract surgery.

3. Clarity Laser Vision

Website
Address: 1016 68 Ave SW #110

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM

Clarity Laser Vision caught my attention with its Light Adjustable Lens.

The clinic’s care team can fine-tune the lens with UV light after surgery, which sounds much better than guessing what you’ll want to see clearly.

I like that Clarity uses two independent instruments to check measurements needed for surgical planning. My eyes aren’t where I’d want anyone relying on a single reading, though I’d still ask what those results mean for me.

The facility is accredited by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta. Clarity offers a lifetime commitment to eligible laser surgery patients, but I’d check the terms carefully before assuming it applies to cataract treatment.

The catch is Clarity’s focus on premium surgical approaches. If you’re after standard cataract surgery with no optional upgrades, ask what’s covered and what you’d pay before booking.

Pros

  • Offers Light Adjustable Lenses that can be fine-tuned after surgery
  • Uses two independent instruments to check key surgical measurements
  • CPSA-accredited non-hospital surgical facility

Cons

  • Focuses on premium approaches

Gentle But Skilled Surgeon

I have been a patient of Dr Al-Ghoul for many years. He has a gentle manner which I so appreciate. He is a skilled surgeon in whom I have complete trust.

I have had different types of treatments at Clarity including IPL for dry eye and cataract surgery. The atmosphere in the operating room was calm and pleasant, Dr Al-Ghoul explained what he was doing during surgery. The after care was amazing with Dr LaBelle. She was patient in answering questions, offered advice and tips, was friendly and her whole demeanour calmed my anxiety  Probably the best after-care experience ever!

Highly Recommended Cataract Surgeon

If you are considering cataract surgery, I highly recommend you discuss your situation with Clarity Laser Vision and Dr. Al Ghoul. In your discussions make sure you review Light Adjustable Lenses. They are the only lens that can be adjusted after surgery, and you can try different prescriptions.

4. Vector Eye Centre

Website
Address: Suite 1705, 1632 14 Ave NW
Contact: (587) 317-9943  | Fax: 403-930-9933
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8 AM – 4 PM | Friday, 8 AM – 2 PM

Vector Eye Centre gives patients a choice of standard and premium replacement lenses. I like having the options laid out, especially when deciding whether an upgrade is worth paying for.

Dr. Jamie Bhamra has performed thousands of cataract surgeries, according to the clinic. Vector uses a retinometer to assess visual potential before surgery, though I wouldn’t treat any test as a crystal ball for the final result.

The team lists care in eight languages and offers financing for eligible costs, including lens upgrades.

Three hours of free parking outside the clinic is a small mercy when an eye appointment already comes with enough to think about.

The snag is the schedule: Vector closes on weekends and at 2 PM on Fridays. If you rely on a working family member for a lift, those appointment hours may take some juggling.

Pros

  • Offers standard and premium replacement lenses
  • Uses a retinometer to assess visual potential before surgery
  • Provides care in eight languages and financing for eligible upgrades
  • Offers three hours of free parking outside the clinic

Cons

  • Closed on weekends and at 2 PM on Fridays, which may be inconvenient if you need someone to drive you

Life-Changing Cataract Surgery Restored My Vision

Life-Changing Experience. I can’t thank Dr. Ugo Dodd enough for restoring my vision through cataract surgeries on both of my eyes. From start to finish, she made me feel comfortable and confident and the results have truly changed my life. Seeing clearly again is something I no longer take for granted. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Dodd and highly recommend her, and I also appreciate the entire staff at the Vector Eye Centre for their clear communication throughout the entire process.

Professional Glaucoma and Cataract Care Worth Waiting

I was referred to Dr. Bhamra by my ophthalmologist for cataract surgery. I also had Narrow-angle glaucoma, which required laser treatment. Dr. Bhamra and all staff at Vector Clinic were very professional. They provided me clarity on the process from Day 1 which was very helpful. The whole treatment process took about 20 months, but it was worth waiting.

5. TLC Laser Eye Centres Calgary

tlc-laser-eye-centres-calgary

Website
Address: 290 Midpark Way SE, Suite 305
Contact: 403-931-5941
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM

TLC Laser Eye Centres Calgary caught my attention for its cataract surgery and range of vision correction options.

I’d want a surgeon to walk me through the lens choices before I let anyone near my eyes, however steady their hands are.

I like that TLC works with local eye doctors for care around the procedure. Having my regular optometrist involved would make the follow-up feel less like being passed from one waiting room to another.

The clinic offers pre-operative consultations, which give me a chance to ask about the surgeon, costs, and recovery plan. Those are the details I’d rather sort out while I can still read the paperwork comfortably.

The drawback for me is its weekday schedule, with appointments listed from 8 AM to 4 PM. If a family member needs to drive you to surgery or follow-up visits, you may both have to arrange time off work.

Pros

  • Offers cataract surgery and several vision correction options
  • Coordinates care with local eye doctors
  • Offers a consultation to discuss treatment options

Cons

  • Weekday 8 AM–4 PM hours may mean arranging time off for appointments and a lift home after surgery
