The 9 Best Fish and Chips Restaurants in Calgary That’ll Have You Feeling ‘Chuffed to Bits’
Every time I visit a new country, I make it a point to try its signature meal. So on my first trip to England, I promised myself that I’d get fish and chips at least once.
I ended up loving the meal so much that the first time was promptly followed by a second, a third, and a fourth! Even before my trip was over, I was already planning on combing through Calgary for a good fish and chips spot.
Luckily, my beloved hometown didn’t disappoint. I found out that there are actually a lot of diners and pubs that serve fish and chips in the city. However, I can tell you that they’re not all winners.
With the help of some friends, I’ve taken the time to try them all out, and the results are in. Listed below are the best fish and chips restaurants in Calgary.

Must-order: Halibut Fish ‘N Chips
Pelica Pier is best known as a casual family restaurant. It’s got a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for laughs and lively conversation.
Each member of your family can choose a different fish from their extensive selection of fish and chips. You can go for pollock, salmon, cod, or all 3 in their Trio of Fish dish.
However, the best option has to be their Halibut Fish and Chips. You can get it grilled, but we prefer it lightly battered. We love its crispy and well-seasoned exterior and the slightly buttery taste of the fish inside.
We have to mention the creamy tartar sauce as well. We’re lucky that they give so much since we can’t get enough of it.
Pro tip: Pelican Pier isn’t just a restaurant, but a seafood market as well. They have a selection of fresh/frozen seafood and pre-made dishes from their menu that are ready to cook at home. |

Must-order: Haddock & Chips
Commonly known as KP or K-Pub to regulars, Kensington Pub is a charming hangout that’s been around since 1993.
When you see it from the front, you’ll think it looks completely out of place here in Canada. Instead, it looks like it belongs in a quaint countryside English town. The menu is on theme as well, with all of it being traditional English food.
Of course, the Haddock & Chips are the real star of the show. It comes with a huge fillet, chips, some coleslaw, and tartar sauce.
The batter is thin, but it has a satisfying crunch when you bite into it. Meanwhile, the fish inside is very succulent. The chips are also crispy and perfectly salty.
Once you’re done with that, make sure to get one of their famous Sticky Toffee Puddings for dessert. It’s a delectable sweet treat that’ll complete your meal.
Pro tip: Although it’s cozy inside Kensington Pub, their wonderful patio is the best place to sit when the weather is nice. Plus, it’s pet-friendly too! |

Everything about Rodney’s Oyster House will get you in the mood for seafood. The whole place is decked out in nautical decor, such as anchors, seashells, and ropes.
It might seem like overkill at first. But once you taste their food, we guarantee you’ll be imagining a life at sea.
Although they’re best known for oysters, you’ll find all kinds of seafood on their menu. They also serve shrimp, crab, lobster, and more.
As for their Fish & Chips, you can expect it to come with two pieces of haddock. These fillets are always excellently cooked and not dry at all. They’re so fresh that you’ll be able to taste the mild sweetness of the fish.
Families are going to appreciate that these exquisite fish and chips are listed under the kids’ menu too. The only difference is that it comes with smaller portions for the younger members of your family.

Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM
Must-order: Fish & Chips
Blowers & Grafton is a modern pub that serves East Coast food, and yet it’s still distinctly Calgarian. The atmosphere inside is so unique, but all that really matters to us is that they’ve got warm service and incredible house beers.
Although they offer a ton of comfort food like hot wings and nachos, nothing compares to their classic Fish & Chips. They use Atlantic Haddock, coated with a tasty beer batter. The result is a flaky and flavorful dish that feels a bit more elevated than your usual pub grub.
For an even better experience, you can approach one of their friendly bartenders. They’ll happily give you recommendations on what pairs well with your meal.
Pro tip: Blowers & Grafton hosts plenty of social events throughout the week. You and your friends can join in on their exciting trivia night every Wednesday, where you can bond while you enjoy good food. |

- Sunday – 12:30 to 11:00 PM
Must-order: Fish And Chips (Haddock)
When you hear the words The Burger Mechanic, you probably won’t expect stellar seafood options. But similar to how you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, you apparently can’t judge a restaurant by its name.
This is a chill spot that gained popularity for its amazing comfort food. Looking at their menu, you might assume that all their food is greasy, but that’s not the case at all.
Their Fish and Chips are particularly impressive and mouthwatering. Their Haddock cuts are a beautiful golden color on the outside, while still being tender and flaky on the inside.
The tartar sauce it comes with has a strong, tangy flavor that goes really well with the fish. Honestly, it’s so good we could eat it on its own.
Pro tip: Make sure you arrive at The Burger Mechanic with a large group of friends or a really big appetite. They’ll give you some of their delicious lemon butter chicken soup for free if your order ends up being worth more than $35. |

Must-order: Mix & Match Fish & Chips
Joey’s Fish Shack began as a small business back in 1985. But over the years, they’ve grown into being the biggest seafood chain across the country.
It’s clear to us how they managed to expand so fast. Their menu can basically convert any diner into an avid seafood lover.
They’re very consistent when it comes to the quality of their Fish & Chips. They manage to get the batter-to-fish ratio right every single time. It ends up being crunchy with the right amount of salt.
We highly recommend ordering the Mix & Match Fish & Chips so you can enjoy two different fillets. You’ll get a buttery haddock and a sweet, delicate cod.
Pro tip: Reserve all your Tuesdays for Joey’s Fish Shack from now on. Their all-you-can-eat Tuesdays will let you consume as much delicious fried fish as you want. |

- Saturday – 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM
- Sunday – 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM
- Monday to Tuesday – Closed
Must-order: Fish & Chips
The British Chippy has had a long and interesting history. It first opened in England back in 1915.
When the grandkids of the original owners moved to Calgary, they decided to bring the business with them. This means they’ve been serving quality food for over a hundred years.
But even though so much time has passed, they still serve the original recipes made by their grandparents. Except now, they prioritize health and nutrition much more by using organic and non-GMO ingredients.
This commitment adds a delicious layer of flavor to their Fish & Chips. The natural, mildly sweet flavor of the fish shines, thanks to the fresh and non-oily batter it’s coated with.
Pro tip: Although it costs extra, it’s worth getting The British Chippy’s coleslaw as a side to your fish and chips. It’s slightly sweet, creamy, and it’ll add a nice little kick to your meal. |

- Friday to Saturday – 11:00 AM to 4:00 AM
- Sunday – 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Must-order: Fish & Chips
Since 2017, Streats Beltline Kitchen has been a trendy hangout spot for the younger folk. They love the restaurant for its diverse menu that’s inspired by a variety of cuisines.
The place itself has an electric atmosphere, partly because of the vibrant decor and loud music. It’s so cool that it’s been featured on a lot of networks like Complex, CBC News, CTV News, Curiocity, Calgary Herald, LAD Bible, and more.
Unlike their branding, though, their version of Fish & Chips feels much more classic and understated. It looks simple compared to the other fancy stuff on their menu, but the flavor speaks for itself.
They use Wild Alaska Pollock, which has a mild fish taste. Just a squeeze of the provided lemon wedge and it becomes a scrumptious combination of zesty, savory, and slightly sweet flavors.
Pro tip: Tuesdays are the best days to dine at Streats Beltline Kitchen. That’s when they offer fish and chips at a discounted price. |
9. The Garrison Pub & Eatery

- Friday to Saturday – 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday – 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Must-order: 2 Pc Halibut & Chips
Most young diners tend to overlook the Garrison Pub & Eatery since it mostly caters to an older crowd. However, believe us when we say that they’re missing out.
Their 2 Pc Halibut & Chips are truly out of this world. We don’t know how since it’s deep-fried and covered in light breading, but their fillets stay moist and flaky. And since they use halibut, it ends up having this sweet and slightly briny taste.
To take this meal to the next level, you just have to turn to their amazing selection of craft beers. You’ll have a refreshing drink that will make each bite even more delightful.
Pro tip: If you still have some space, don’t miss the Garrison Pub & Eatery’s Monte Cristo Sandwich. This is considered the best triple-decker sandwich in the city, and it’ll change your life. |
