We thought the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium was just another venue. We were so wrong!

The first time I stepped into the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, I felt like a kid in a candy store—except the candy was world-class performances, and the store was a stunning architectural masterpiece.

I was there for a ballet (because who doesn’t love pretending to be fancy for a night?), and from the moment the curtain rose, I was hooked. By the end of the show, I’d Googled their entire event calendar to see what I could attend next.

Whether you’re planning your first visit or you’re already a Jubilee superfan, this guide has everything you need to make your experience unforgettable. Ready to dive in? Let’s go!

Best Time to Go

The best time to visit the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is during the quieter summer months, as it’s busiest from September to May. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the show to park and get seated, noting that doors open an hour prior.

What is the history of the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary?

jubilee-auditorium-in-calgary

Born in the golden age of the 1950s, the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium was Alberta’s 50th birthday gift to itself—a grand venue designed with input from top acoustical and architectural minds.

Officially opening its doors on April 28, 1957, it’s been dazzling audiences ever since. Fast forward to 2005, when a shiny renovation marked its own 50th anniversary (and Alberta’s 100th) with upgraded features for an even better experience.

Today, it’s the go-to spot for everything from opera and ballet to concerts, plays, graduations, and even the Olympic Arts Festival. It’s also the proud home of Calgary Opera and Alberta Ballet Company.
