Cons

Faster guitar progress with convenient family lessons

My daughter learned more on the guitar with Ryan in one 30 minute lesson, than she did last year somewhere else.  I like being able to take both kids children here to have their lessons at the same time.  They teach guitar, piano, voice and more ….

Engaging guitar lessons and organized recitals

My son has been taking guitar lessons with Lone for almost two years and it’s been such a great experience. Lone teaches him to play songs he loves which keeps him interested and engaged. We’ve also been impressed with the school as a whole – good communication and well organized with everything from registration to recitals. Would absolutely recommend!

Cons

  • Financial commitment with zero refunds
  • No makeup classes

Supportive teaching that builds confidence

To find a music teacher you connect with and who wants you to achieve your best result every week, is the most important music teacher you will ever have. I drive an hour to see Ms Dora every week and it’s the best morning of my week; we have so much fun and my progress is steady and confident!❤️

Enthusiastic music teachers and strong technique focus

Leading Tone’s newest location! Very clean, well organized and convenient parking. Both of my children went through MYC at Leading Tone with Ms. Dora and other wonderful teachers. We particularly enjoyed Ms. Dora’s enthusiasm for music and her focus on techniques. My kids have learnt and grown so much throughout the years at Leading Tone. I wouldn’t have started their paths to music anywhere else.

Leroux Music pairs core instrumental guidance with professional academic tutoring, combining creative arts with academic support under one roof.

The owner is highly patient and shapes each session around unique individual interests. New clients can even book a first class for free to test the waters.

The flexibility here is worth praising. Semester students can freely swap time slots between instruments or tutoring subjects without penalty. Surprises don’t happen because they never charge registration or admin fees.

Plus, they make scheduling changes straightforward and stress-free. This supportive structure ensures clients can balance their creative goals with schoolwork seamlessly.

On the downside, this isn’t a guitar-specialized school, so the multi-subject environment might not suit purists. Choices are also strictly limited to standard weekly time slots.

  • Initial introductory session provided free
  • Customized one-on-one lesson planning
  • Transfer time slots between music and academics
  • No administrative sign-up charges

Cons

Patient, adaptive lessons for adult learners

An absolute gem of a studio. I hadn’t picked up an instrument seriously in decades. Isaac and Bryan made me feel comfortable and welcome when I was feeling very nervous. Isaac, my instructor, was personable, knowledgeable, and patient. He has an excellent and thorough knowledge of an assortment of music. He’s very open to changing his teaching style if one way isn’t working for you. I always left feeling better than when I had walked in.

Welcoming studio for nervous beginners

Bryan is a genuinely warm and lovely human. As an older learner, I was nervous about taking music lessons for the first time, but Bryan and my instructor, Rogan, have been amazing. Rogan’s teaching style is supportive & adaptive. I highly recommend the studio!

4. School of Rock

Address: 2707 – 17th Ave. SW

Contact: 587-353-7625

Schedule: Monday-Friday 3:00 PM-9:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM-4:00 PM

School of Rock uses a patented performance-based training model that pairs classic one-on-one instruction with energetic rehearsals. This shared setup ensures that guitar students learn how to collaborate and stay in time with a full rhythm section.

Local instructors design custom learning plans to keep intermediate and advanced players constantly challenged. They provide tailored lesson tracks for young kids just starting out, as well as older students joining the structured adult program.

I like how they transform routine practice into an exciting team effort. This active environment pushes musicians to sharpen their skills much faster.

Plus, the program focuses heavily on real-world preparation. The training culminates in actual live gigs hosted at popular music venues in Calgary.

However, their rock-focused repertoire might not appeal to someone who wants a strictly classical education. Most packages also require a mandatory weekly rehearsal commitment, which takes up extra time.

Pros

  • Core technical skills reinforced through rehearsals
  • Live stage experience
  • Programs spanning early childhood to adults
  • Advanced tracking for intermediate musicians

Cons

  • Heavy stylistic focus on rock genres
  • Mandatory weekly group rehearsal

Patient guitar lessons and supportive adult band

I am a guitar student at this school, and I really appreciate how they teach at your pace, without any pressure. The environment is warm and welcoming. My teacher, Jerry, is fantastic—he’s very patient, kind, and respectful, and he makes learning guitar feel enjoyable and achievable. I also play in the Adult Band, where Brett is our band leader. He is super patient and supportive, and the other band members are just as encouraging. It’s a great place to learn, grow, and play music with others.

Amazing free trial and excited young guitar student

Went for a free trial at School of Rock and the staff were amazing, the guitar teacher my daughter had was amazing and she was so excited to join this school. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a musical outlet for yourself or your kids! So happy we found a place for my daughter who isn’t into sports 🙂

5. RS Music

Address: 500 Country Hills Blvd NE

Contact: 403-228-5553 | [email protected]

Schedule: Monday-Friday 3:30-8:30 PM; Saturday-Sunday 10:00 AM-3:00 PM

RS Music solves registration hurdles by offering a completely contract-free policy that lets students start their learning path at any point during the year.

They support this freedom with a penalty-free, flexible scheduling system. This structure makes it easy to shift appointments when life gets chaotic.

We love that students can choose the exact environment they prefer, whether that means online classes or in-studio sessions.

As a direct result of this highly accommodating setup, learning becomes completely stress-free. The adaptive format allows busy individuals to pursue creative hobbies at their own comfortable pace.

And if the students don’t own an instrument yet, convenient rent-to-own guitar options let them test out a model before purchasing.

On the other hand, their primary guitar programs are strictly one-on-one sessions, so clients shouldn’t expect a band setup. They also teach everything from violin to drums, meaning lessons don’t happen in a guitar-exclusive facility.

Pros

  • No long-term contracts required
  • Flexible scheduling adjustments
  • Internal instrument rental and purchasing plans
  • Diverse training formats

Cons

  • Focus on private instruction
  • Shared general studio space
