5 Best Pet Stores in Calgary That Local Pet Parents Go to Spoil Their Fur Babies

  • Expertise - We chose pet stores staffed with knowledgeable employees who understand pet health, behavior, and product recommendations.
  • Product Variety - We looked for stores that offer a wide range of pet supplies, from food and toys to grooming tools and specialty items for all kinds of pets.
  • Customer Service - We prioritized stores known for friendly, helpful service and staff who go the extra mile to assist both pets and their owners.
  • Local Reputation - We focused on stores that are highly rated by Calgary locals and have a strong presence in the community.
  • Value for Money - We selected stores that offer fair pricing, loyalty programs, and high-quality products at a reasonable cost.

I—like other pet parents I know—have a favorite pet store.

Surprisingly, it’s not the one on my block, since that one has unfriendly staff and limited items. Nope, my favorite is the one two blocks away.

Now, those guys are awesome. Not only is the store sparkling clean and spacious (with friendly staff, too!), but it also has a wide range of hard-to-get pet food and toys!

So, if you’re looking for your next favorite pet store, you’ve come to the right place. Here are the only pet shops in Calgary that are worth the trip.

How much do pet supplies cost in Calgary?

Pet supplies in Calgary typically cost anywhere from $10 to $100 or more per month. Pet food varies widely—expect to pay around $30 to $80 per month for quality kibble or wet food, with specialty or raw diets costing more.
Treats typically cost $5 to $50 per bag, and essentials like litter, grooming products, and accessories can add an extra $20 to $50 monthly.
In addition, basic toys range from $5 to $25, while premium or interactive ones can go up to $50.

I love being able to see where my money is going

“Just recently discovered they had a store in Kensington after a while of shopping at their other location. Both are great, but this one takes the cake. I’ve been in a few times now and am always welcomed by the lovely employee (can’t remember her name but I do remember Ham and Beef!). The store itself is adorable and clean, with great prices, and I love being able to see where my money is going. Keep it up :]”

They’ve got the essentials covered, from pet food and treats to medications and toys, but what makes them unique is their selection of dog clothes. Just imagine your fur baby strutting around in doggy sweaters, raincoats, coats, or socks—adorable!

We also like their Frequent Buyer Program, which is a pretty sweet deal if you’re consistently buying pet supplies from them. It’s simple, and it adds up fast for multi-pet households, which is quite practical.

Absolutely loved this pet store!

“Visited for the first time today and we absolutely loved this pet store! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They were so happy to see my friendly German Shepherd, Max, and gave him a lot of attention and treats, which he adores. They had the biggest variety of chews, toys, and food I’ve seen in any pet store around the city. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you!”

Best pet store in the city

“Best pet store in the city. More variety than I’ve ever seen, and prices are very reasonable is not lower than other stores. Staff are super helpful, and they go out of their way to find what you need. Also, a fun place just to go pet dogs as most owners bring them with them!”

— Brad Bay, Google Review

Frequent sales on amazing items

“Always always always friendly service. We get acknowledged or said hello to while wandering, every time. Very competitive prices compared to other stores around. Frequent sales on amazing items. HUGE inventory to choose from. These folks carry a very wide range of brands and products… way more than any other store. Highly recommend supporting this company, and maybe not supporting the other greedy big-name stores in the city. I pass about 4 different competitor stores to get to Homes Alive Pets, and it is worth the extra hike every time.”
