The 5 Best Physical Therapy Services in Calgary That’ll Have You Back to Tip-Top Shape in No Time

  • Credentials: We made sure that the therapists had all the necessary credentials, such as a permit from the College of Physical Therapists of Alberta.
  • Atmosphere: We chose clinics that had a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for patients.
  • Range of Services: We picked clinics that offered a wide range of services and could treat a variety of conditions.
  • Customer Satisfaction: We interviewed previous clients and went through reviews to ensure that they were satisfied with the overall service they received.

This year, I promised myself that I’d try to become more of a daredevil. I was tired of being a homebody and wanted to push myself to enjoy the outdoors more.

However, I absolutely didn’t foresee that tragedy would strike during my first adventure. While hiking the Rockies, I slipped and landed on my ankle wrong. It wasn’t so bad that I had to be airlifted, but the pain did last long after I made my way down the mountains.

I was too stubborn to do anything about it at first, but I think seeing me hobble worried my friends so much that they gave me a list of physical therapists to see in Calgary.

Thanks to several great therapy sessions, I’m steadily regaining the confidence to go out and conquer the world again.

How much do physical therapy services cost in Calgary?

Physical therapists in Calgary typically charge their patients around $50 to $200 per session. The final price will depend on the type of service or treatments you need, your age, and the number of body parts that need to be treated.

If you’re a health nut, there’s a huge chance that you’ve already heard of Lifemark. With more than 300 locations across the country, their clinics offer massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, psychological help, and physiotherapy.

Just make sure you don’t show up empty-handed on your first appointment. Bring all the documents related to your injury or medical history so they can do a comprehensive assessment.

Their physical therapists can create a tailored treatment plan according to your case. I didn’t know, but apparently, every single patient has a unique recovery strategy according to their age and needs.

The best part about working with them is that they’re super encouraging. It’s almost as if giving up isn’t even an option.

It’s a different story with their front desk staff, though. Unlike the therapists, these guys aren’t always the nicest.

Pros

  • More than 300 locations in the country
  • Offers a variety of services
  • Comprehensive assessments
  • Tailored treatment plans
  • Encouraging physical therapists

Cons

  • Customer service from reception staff needs improvement

Very grateful for their care and expertise

“I am very grateful for the care and expertise of Dr. Sachin Gupta. From the first session,he took the time to understand my concerns and designed a program that really worked for me. His professionalism, encouragement, and knowledge made a huge difference in my recovery. I would confidently recommend him to anyone in need of physiotherapy.”

Can’t recommend them enough

“I’ve been seeing Sachin for about a year now for a few different issues, and I can’t recommend him enough! He’s incredibly friendly, highly knowledgeable, and always takes the time to explain his plan before starting any treatment. What I appreciate most is that his main goal isn’t making money, it’s helping you heal. That kind of genuine care is rare. I’ve already recommended him to friends and family, and now I’m recommending him to you!”

When it comes to customer service, Calgary Core Physiotherapy takes the cake. From the moment you enter, their lovely staff will be there to greet you warmly and attend to all of your questions.

Going through their offerings, what stood out to me was that they already have pre-determined programs to choose from. Of course, they have treatments for injuries and back pain, but they also offer plans to address whiplash, vertigo, and TMJ.

I was even more impressed to learn that they have special accommodations for athletes. Their therapists can work with your coach to get you back in peak condition.

But if you’re looking for something more specific, they also have individual services such as shockwave therapy, laser therapy, and medical acupuncture.

That being said, I’d recommend not booking an appointment unless you’re sure. If you don’t make it, you’ll have to pay a steep cancellation fee.

Pros

  • Welcoming and attentive staff
  • Has pre-determined programs
  • Special treatments for athletes
  • Offers a variety of treatments

Cons

  • Has a steep cancellation fee

They accelerated my rehab process

“I have been going to Calgary Core for more than 5 years now and Carolyn has always helped me get back on my feet. I struggled with degenerative disc disease and every time my low back flared up, Carolyn was able to help me get walking. After I had Artifical Disc Replacement she was there again to help accelerate my rehab process! Highly recommended!”

“I can’t recommend this place enough. In just a few sessions Jacalyn has brought me from pain every night, struggling and thinking I’d never be fit and healthy again, to lifting weights, back in the gym, and achieving my goals without pain or worry. Can’t recommend this place enough. if you were ever on the fence about coming to physio don’t waste anymore time and book something asap, it can be life changing.”

Despite being around for 40 years, it’s surprising to learn that Panther Sports Medicine isn’t more popular. I have friends who swear by their services, from their acupuncture sessions to their physiotherapy programs.

Part of why they love it so much is the virtual physical therapy appointments. If, for some reason, you can’t make it to the clinic, you can simply connect with your designated physical therapist online for a session.

However, I’d suggest going in person as much as you can. They have a spacious and well-equipped rehabilitation gym that you’re going to want to use.

It’s worth mentioning that the clinic has a multilingual team. For those who prefer to speak French, Cantonese, Hindi, or something else, just let them know, and they’ll assign an expert who can converse with you fluently.

I should warn you, though: they’re not always the most punctual. Some therapists start their appointments late.

Pros

  • 40 years in the industry
  • Offers a variety of services
  • Virtual physical therapy appointments
  • Has a well-equipped rehabilitation gym
  • Multilingual team

Cons

  • Starts some appointments late

I couldn’t be happier with the service provided

“It is always a pleasure going for physio at Panther Sports Medicine and Country Hills. The staff are incredibly kind and friendly. The front staff are always cheerful and welcoming. I’ve met people who have seemingly recovered from an injury in the blink of an eye after going to Peak Health & Performance. Apparently, this clinic is really great at getting you the results you need with fewer appointments.

A big reason behind this is their personalized approach. They’ll consider your medical history and give you exercises that’ll make a real difference.

After talking to more of their clients, I’ve learned that they’ve treated a wide array of sports-related injuries, including those acquired from hockey, skiing, rock climbing, and cycling.

They don’t just work with adults, though; they also offer physiotherapy sessions for kids. From what we’ve heard, these are good for things like fractures and developmental delays. And their therapists work hard to make it fun for the young ones.

The only thing that’s not so great is that they occasionally cancel appointments on the same day they’re scheduled.

Pros

  • Faster results
  • Personalized approach
  • Treats a wide array of sports injuries
  • Offers physiotherapy for kids

Cons

  • Occasionally cancels appointments

The experience has been amazing

“I’m currently receiving treatment for lower back pain with Taylor Sipos, and the experience has been amazing so far. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking quality physiotherapy care!”

Business Hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Saturday – 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Sunday – Closed

Website

Market Mall Physio & Chiro is amazing for those who have never done physical therapy and don’t know what to expect. They have a free consultation where you can discuss what hurts and learn how they can help.

Once everything is set, your therapist will go ahead and create a highly customized care plan. I say highly because it seems their therapists frequently create new techniques and approaches to help their clients.

You can trust that your comfort is their priority, whether you’re suffering from an injury or need help in recovering from surgery. Their therapists are always kind, attentive, and also funny.

Their one flaw is that they might temporarily leave in the middle of an appointment to tend to another patient. But usually, this only happens once they know you’re familiar with doing the exercises alone.

Pros

  • Free consultation
  • Customized care plan
  • Prioritizes clients’ comfort
  • Kind and attentive therapists

Cons

  • Therapists occasionally leave in the middle of an exercise

Easily one of the best physio teams in the city

“Easily one of the best physio teams in the city. Maddy (Chiro), Enoch and Kevin (physio) all worked together on my recovery from 3 massive full torso surgeries. Their collaboration and teamwork is the best I’ve seen, and I’ve been to multiple clinics in Calgary and Red Deer for various sports injuries over 25 years. I strongly recommend this clinic.”

Alleviates my shoulder pain a lot

“I have worked with Andrew and Henriette on my shoulder pain. They are both very amazing. Andrew is able to find the smallest muscles tightness. His needling technique is very mature. They don’t leave any bruises but yet, very effective. I felt instantly better the next day. Henriette is very good with cupping and any massages she does. Together, they alleviate my shoulder pain a lot. I would highly recommend them if you’re considering physio.”
