Jumping on the “New Year, New Me” bandwagon, I decided to sign up for a personal trainer. But this time, instead of just picking the cheapest option, I did my homework and found someone who really fit my goals.
Within a few weeks, I actually started seeing improvement! This goes to show how amazing it is to have the right fitness coach.

To make sure you’re set up for success, they pair you up with one of their experienced personal trainers who acts as your coach and strategist. They create a plan tailored specifically to your unique goals.
What’s great is that they know life in Calgary can be hectic, so they offer flexible hours from 6 AM to 8 PM. You can also choose between in-gym or virtual personal training sessions to add to the convenience.
Sadly, we heard complaints about clients who faced unprofessional coaches—perhaps they overdid the tough-love coaching style.

His gym is known for semi-private training. Basically, you’ll have a 1:1 personal trainer, but the coach splits their time between one to three people.
For those looking for extreme changes, they offer a specialized bodybuilding and fitness competition prep. The team works with athletes and contest participants to get “stage-ready,” focusing on nutrition, posing, and peak-week strategy.
No worries if you can’t make it to their studio. They have online personal coaching, which includes weekly check-in summaries and 24/7 accessibility.
Sure, they’re known for their results, but there’s one caveat—we heard reports of poor communication, which is not ideal for those who need constant support.

In terms of personal training, he believes that every strong body is built on five movements: squat, hinge, push, pull, and carry. Basically, he keeps you on your toes by mixing weightlifting and gymnastics.
A welcome bonus is that his workouts are designed to tap into your mental grit just as much as your hypertrophy and strength.

Head Trainer Jill has been leading Evolved Strength Training Studios since 2019. Her gym has been offering onsite and virtual training, making it easy to stay consistent no matter your schedule or comfort level.
They’re known for their weight training protocol, designed to be safe for people recovering from injuries or illness. In fact, the studio even has a MedX Lumbar machine for building lower-back and core strength while supporting recovery.
We like that they work with individuals managing a wide range of health concerns, from osteoporosis and PCOS to heart conditions, menopause, and joint replacements.
To help new clients get started, they offer a complimentary one-hour consultation. Not only will you talk to a strength coach, but you’ll also experience a sample workout.
Just don’t expect their workout programs to be as extensive as those in other studios.
