The trade-off is privacy and timing. Korilla doesn’t offer a private dining room, so don’t expect an intimate gathering.

The food was incredibly fresh

What an awesome place. We tried Korilla for the first time on Saturday night and were impressed from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere is modern, stylish, and welcoming.

The service from Patricia (I think—sorry if I got the name wrong!) was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better.

The food was incredibly fresh, and it was great being able to watch the butchers prepare and cut the meat right in front of you. Everything we ordered was excellent.

The small ribs are a must

Went here with my friends and had a great time. We ordered two small platters (one Signature, one Value), which was the perfect amount for sharing.

The small ribs are a must — juicy, well-marinated, and one of the highlights. Everything came out fresh and well-paced.

Service was attentive and friendly – staff checked in regularly, helped with the grill when needed, and kept things moving without rushing us.

2. Gogi Kitchen

Website: https://gogikoreanbbq.ca/

Address: 639 5 Ave SW #120

Contact: (403) 453-7691 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Gogi Kitchen is GOGI’s downtown Korean street-food concept, with individual meals and snacks instead of the all-you-can-eat tabletop grilling offered at the brand’s other BBQ locations.

Their menu has authentic street food, such as bibimbap, deopbap, rice cakes, boneless fried chicken, and sweet potato snacks.

Their setup works well for a quick downtown lunch or takeaway order. Their restaurant opens at 10:00 AM on weekdays and operates seven days a week, ideal for customers working nearby.

They’re suited for catering as well, which adds another option for group meals or events.

The main limitation is the dining format. This branch doesn’t provide tabletop grilling or an unlimited Korean BBQ experience, so you’ll need to go to their other locations instead.

Pros

  • Korean street food concept
  • Conveniently located downtown
  • Available for catering
  • Open seven days a week

Cons

  • No tabletop grilling or all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ

Tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly

First time trying today Absolutely delicious! The teriyaki beef was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. The gyoza were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired perfectly with the meal. Portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the service was excellent.

I’ll definitely be coming back to try more! Highly recommended!

Simple, comforting, and full of flavor

Really enjoyed this bibimbap. The vegetables were fresh and nicely seasoned, the rice was warm and fluffy, and the gochujang tied everything together with just the right amount of spice. Simple, comforting, and full of flavor.

3. Chaihong 차이홍

chaihong

Website: https://www.clover.com/

Address: 303 Centre St S Unit 116

Contact: (825) 540-1505

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 11:30 AM-8:30 PM

Chaihong 차이홍 specialises in Korean-style Chinese comfort food, with a menu centred on jajangmyeon, jjambbong, tangsuyuk, Korean-fusion fried rice, and shareable combo sets.

They offer more than one black bean noodle style, including regular jajangmyeon and gan jajangmyeon. Meanwhile, Rose Jjambbong adds a creamy twist to spicy seafood noodles.

This is a very different kind of noodle stop. Their combos pair small tangsuyuk portions with two noodle dishes.

The portions? Generous, to say the least, as a plate can feed around two to three people, so you’re getting your money’s worth every time.

Unfortunately, their shop is closed on Sundays, so you’ll need to pop in early for weekend cravings to avoid the crowd on Saturdays.

Pros

  • Korean-style Chinese food
  • Generous portions per plate
  • Combo sets pair tangsuyuk with two noodle dishes
  • Wide variety of noodle dishes

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays

Perfect balance of flavours

Had a great time at Chaihong! I’ve been before and I was craving their Jjangjangmeon, it can be hard to find downtown.

Service was prompt, food was delicious and hot with the perfect balance of flavours, I just wish there was more pork. The pickled radish was readily available with the server having some amazing telepathic powers filling up my lil banchan dish every time it got low.

I highly recommend them!

Everything was hot and fresh

My husband and I went to Chaihong for the first time today and it didn’t disappoint. It was hard to decide what to order because everything looked so good and neither of us were disappointed. Everything was hot and fresh, the flavors were incredible, and the service was fantastic. I highly recommend Chaihong. We will be back for sure.

Address: 2122 Crowchild Trail NW

Contact: (403) 452-9855

Hours: Monday-Sunday, 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Clay Pot Asian Food Kitchen in McMahon centres their menu on Guangdong-style claypot rice, cooked until the bottom becomes crisp and aromatic. They pair this traditional method with modern toppings and Euro-style presentation.

They have a broad menu for every craving. You’ll find signature combinations including smoked beef brisket with cheese, lobster tail with shrimp and egg, halibut cheek with conch, and smoked duck breast.

You’ll get to taste handmade noodles here, which have a better chew and fresh flavour. Then, they elevate the experience with Asian-inspired cocktails at the bar.

One limitation is the signature section. Sadly, the claypot-rice menu doesn’t come with a vegetarian option, so plant-based diners will have to look at the other categories.

Pros

  • Specialises in crisp-bottomed Guangdong-style claypot rice
  • Offers several distinctive meat and seafood claypot combinations
  • Mix of authentic and Euro-style cuisine
  • Asian-inspired drinks available at the bar

Cons

  • Claypot-rice menu doesn’t have a vegetarian option

Customer Reviews

The claypot rice delivers flavor

Really great food, nicely plated. The mala dishes have the perfect amount of numbing spicy without being overwhelming, and there’s very good use of other bold spices like cumin. Not everything is so spice-forward though, the claypot rice delivers flavor through the smokiness of the toasted rice and the generous portions of duck and seafood. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful too. Will definitely be back.

We were both blown away

This was my first time trying clay pot and we were both blown away! We started with the Brisket Bao (so good!) and then shared the pork Clay Pot dish. The portion was huge and more than enough for two after an appetizer. Great flavour in both dishes. The service was very friendly, with a charming and relaxed ambiance. Would for sure visit again when in Calgary.

The most authentic Thai food I’ve tasted

We went here for my Nana’s 80th Birthday dinner, and the overall experience was amazing! The decor was absolutely beautiful and she loved it! The food came out quick and was the most authentic Thai food I’ve tasted. The fried rice, crying tiger, and the Tom yum soup was so full of flavour. Definitely will be coming back!

– elijah | Google Review

The crying tiger was the best dish by far

Delish! The food here was so so good, we got the combo 6 which was more than enough food for 6 people. The papaya salad and spring rolls were a great start to the meal, and all the curries were delicious. The crying tiger was the best dish by far, I forgot to take a picture of it I was too busy eating. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Would absolutely go again!
