One of my friends recently went on a cruise and had to leave a foster kitten behind. At the very last minute, her pet sitter cancelled, so she frantically asked me to take over.
Now, I admit the main reason I said yes was that I didn’t think it would be too hard to take care of a feline for a week. But when this tiny ball of fur began throwing up all over my carpet, I realized it wasn’t going to be easy.
Luckily, my neighbor — a self-proclaimed cat lady — came in clutch with suggestions on the most dependable veterinarians in Calgary. In case anyone else needs it, I’m passing forward the same list she sent me.

Downtown Animal Clinic has roots tracing back to more than a century ago, when the original owner was named the official vet for the Calgary Stampede in 1924. Today, they’re still one of the leading clinics in the area.
The majority of their patients have been with them since they were kittens and puppies, with the facility offering all the support they’ll need throughout their lives. This includes microchipping, nutritional counseling, and surgery.
Based on what I’ve heard, owners choose to stay because of the amazing doctors who work here. They’re passionate about what they do and are easy to talk to. They’ll even try to stick to affordable treatments as much as possible.
It also helps that there’s a convenient on-site pharmacy that’s fully stocked with every pet’s prescription needs.
Reception is probably the only time when you’ll feel somewhat stressed. Their receptionists tend to be serious and straightforward, which may come off as rude.

“We’ve been to this clinic a few times now with our kitten – first for the initial check-up and then for follow-ups. Every visit has been such a good experience. Just keep in mind that their customer service is better in person than over the phone. From what I’ve gathered, they’re not that great at answering questions during calls, which often leads to more confusion rather than clarity.

For the past 25 years, Centre Street Veterinary Clinics has been one of the most reliable establishments for pet owners. It’s easy to register as a new client here, as well as book a same-day appointment.
Although they have regular clinic hours, what sets them apart is their24/7 poison helpline. You can immediately head to their office for emergency services if an animal accidentally consumes something toxic.

“We have been going to Centre Street Veterinary clinic for many years. We love Dr. Gida, he is so good with animals. Our last 2 Springer spaniels have had significant health issues and Dr. Gida was always there for us. The techs and reception people are so fantastic. It’s clear to us that this facility puts a lot of thought into what their patients go through. The staff members are always on top of providing detailed information and updates.
That is, unless you’re not a registered client. It turns out they’re a bit secretive about their rates during the initial inquiry.
But once you’re in their system, you’ll have nothing to worry about. The doctors are passionate and will even call occasionally to ensure their patients are doing well.
